SUMMERTIME IS ONE-ON-ONE TIME

Each summer I find that instead of a time of relaxation, work continues at a fast and furious pace. Schedules fill up and I stay focused to ensure I’m spending this precious time in the most efficient way (while still enjoying a little down time with family).

As a not-for-profit executive, summer is the perfect time to spend some quality one-on-one time with your board members. Visit with them in their own environment and do a temperature check on how they are feeling about their board experience. Talk with them about how they plan to be involved in the coming year. Listen to and learn more about them.

Summer is also a great chance to discuss their philanthropic interests and intents for your organization, as well as identify anyone they may want to develop to become a major donor.

After spending a summer of personal visits, you have your finger on the pulse of your volunteer leadership and have great information to share with the entire board in September. “Here’s what I learned from all of you…”

Start planning your visits now and make the most of your summer!
