Rocking Stewardship: How to Show Gratitude as Only You Can

During the pandemic we introduced the concept of “radical stewardship”. We reinforced the necessity of lifting up, thanking and honoring those who were our most loyal friends and donors during that difficult time.

Welcome to November and a wonderful month to demonstrate acts of thanks!

Twice a year DBD Group gathers live and onsite to learn, grow and celebrate. We like to invite clients via Zoom to listen to their story, lift up their amazing work and celebrate them. This past month we invited our client Whitney Rencountre II, CEO of the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, to join the DBD team.

We learned about his personal story. We learned about the story of the Crazy Horse Memorial (you can learn more by watching this video or reading more here). It was such a great time together. We made a gift to Crazy Horse Memorial in honor of Whitney and thanking him for the time he took to be with our team.

A few days ago, a small box arrived at my office… and I must say it was disproportionately heavy for the size of the box. Upon opening I found this rock and a nice note from the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation team.

The note explained that the rock came from the carving site and how the carving is progressing with modern techniques. They thanked me for our role in making the ongoing project a realty. It brought me back to the snowy day we visited the mountain and explored their campus.

Such a great example of radical stewardship. This rock is meaningless without the context – priceless with the story!

What might you have in abundance that could be meaningful beyond measure to those that support and love your organization?

Consider using November to launch a year-long radical stewardship plan.
