December is a busy time in the life of a nonprofit fund raiser. It starts with Giving Tuesday and continues with year-end appeals and gentle reminders for open 2024 pledges. Nonprofit leaders with fundraising responsibilities have a number in their heads: what do I need to raise to meet my year-end goal?
There is however, one thing I implore you to make space for before flipping that calendar to a fresh new year, full of promise, hope and possibility.
One of DBD’s axioms is that fundraising isn’t about the dollars you raise, but the change you make. Make sure you guard time this December to thank your donors and volunteers not just for the time and money they gave, but for the impact they made through their generosity.
Not only is this the right thing to do, but research* also indicates that thanking donors and showing impact is the number one reason they will continue to support your mission in the future. As the research summarized, “Donors enjoy recognition, but require information”.
Need more convincing? I have a client to who saw donor renewal (loyalty) grow to over 75% once they had made a second gift!
As you close out 2024, plant the seeds to success in 2025. Show appreciation and impact, you will be glad you did!
Want to brag on your organization’s impact? Leave us a comment with what you’re proud of!
