Tom O’Neil supports nonprofit organizations with financial analysis, strategic refinancing, economic evaluation and more.

Tom’s long experience in nonprofit fiscal management helps him to understand the unique challenges facing nonprofit staff and volunteer leaders. As the CFO of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA for nearly 20 years, Tom helped grow the organization from $3M to $35M and grow from a one-facility organization to one with four branches, 18 child care sites and a resident camp.

Tom provides counsel for:

  • Developing plans for sustainability, revenue enhancement, cost control, working capital, and reserves for non-profits that are under stress.
  • Strengthening of cash flow through operational excellence and financial management, while building bank relationships.
  • Deploying financial policies to guide the organization forward.
  • Developing annual budgets and long-range plans.
  • Planning for large-scale capital projects to maximize return on investment.
  • Developing Enterprise Risk Management best practices.
  • Stepping into interim CFO roles to strengthen confidence with the Board and leadership.
  • Maintaining stability across CFO responsibilities such as finance, treasury, risk, IT, facilities, and purchasing functions.
  • Non-profit CFO coaching and mentoring.

In addition to his work with the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, Tom also trained Y managers across the country on Fiscal Management. He also supported other YMCAs with analysis and recommendations to support their financial operations

Tom is a graduate of Standford University and holds an MBA from Santa Clara University. He and his family reside in Boise, Idaho.
